Introducing The Monarch Apartment Homes

The Monarch Apartment Homes is a 60-unit affordable housing development on a 3.62 acre vacant parcel of land owned by the City of Palm Springs Successor Redevelopment Agency. The property is located at the Southeast corner of N. Indian Canyon and San Rafael Drive in the Upper Westside One Palm Springs Neighborhood. In partnership with the City under a Disposition Development Agreement (DDA), CHOC is developing the land with multifamily, affordable rental apartments consisting of one, two and three bedroom units.

The project is designed in a contemporary Mid-Century Modern architectural style, incorporating sustainable building materials and components to complement the adjacent, historic Wexler Steel Homes and surrounding community neighborhoods. Our Interactive Design Corporation elevations and renderings depict the architectural style and finishes for the various residential buildings and a community building. The site plan and landscape accentuate the Monarch Butterfly and natural desert plants for this oasis in the desert. This landmark affordable housing development is expected to be completed in September 2024 (estimated).

Creating generational change for tomorrow in Coachella Valley

Clear blue skies and a stunning desertscape welcomed attendees to the historic groundbreaking of The Monarch Apartment Homes in Palm Springs this October, including government dignitaries, local neighbors, and members of CHOC board and staff.

“It’s going to be a gamechanger,” said Fiona Ma, California State Treasurer, who traveled from Sacramento to attend. “I look forward to coming out for many more groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings.”

Spirits ran high with ebullient energy as Heather Vaikona, CEO of Lift to Rise, took to the stage as the MC for the event. After a series of speeches, attendees gathered to witness the turning of the dirt.
